NextScene Kids & Youth Film Festival runs because of two things: a foundation that makes it legally possible, and a team that makes it happen on the ground every year. Yayasan Mula Tumbuh Cerita
The Beginning That Grows a Story
Every festival needs a home. Ours is called Yayasan Mula Tumbuh Cerita, which roughly means “the beginning that grows a story,” and it’s the foundation behind everything NextScene does.
Here’s how it happened. In August 2025, a small group of film people, teachers, and curators put together the very first NextScene: three days of films for kids and youth in Jakarta. No big institution behind it yet, just people who believed young audiences deserved better stories, and a real chance to tell their own.
It worked. So in March 2026, we made it official. Yayasan Mula Tumbuh Cerita now runs NextScene Kids & Youth Film Festival every year, along with other film and culture programs built for children and young people, connecting them with filmmakers, stories, and each other, in Indonesia and beyond.
